Samburu SDA School, Care & Education Project

The Children of the King – Samburu Care & Education Project is a locally led ministry near Kisima in the Samburu region of northern Kenya, providing food, basic education, hygiene supplies, clothing, transportation, and care for children, especially homeless and orphaned children living with very limited resources.
The project is carried out by two indigenous Seventh-day Adventist workers, Saruni and Matthew Lekarikei, who partner as lay pastors with Mara Vision Outreach and are known to Adventist World Radio leadership in Africa. They serve in a region where poverty and food insecurity are widespread and where consistent care and education are limited.
Children receive regular meals, basic hygiene support such as soap and clothing or shoes when available, and instruction in Maa, Swahili, and English. Saruni and Matthew Lekarikei hold teacher credentials, allowing for structured learning despite limited resources.
This project aligns with the mission of the church to care for children in need, support indigenous ministry, and demonstrate Christ’s compassion through practical service. Through this project, Fairplay SDA Church is walking alongside Saruni and Matthew, offering prayer, relational connection, and ongoing support so children may learn, grow, and know they are truly Children of the King.
Looking ahead, the long-term vision includes establishing a simple but durable facility that could support this work more fully—providing space for learning, care for orphans, food storage, access to clean water through a well, and a place for weekly Sabbath worship. This vision grows out of the ministry already taking place and is pursued prayerfully as resources allow.
Funds received through the Fairplay SDA Church and partners will be used to support this integrated care and education ministry, including food, educational supplies, hygiene items, communication needs, and transportation essential to the work, and appropriate support for Saruni and Matthew as local ministry leaders. Disbursements may be transmitted to the local workers to provide timely support, with full transaction records supplied for church documentation to ensure transparency and accountability.
